Athletics 5 Cubs 3 Hey Remember All Those Bullpen Meltdowns

Athletics 5, Cubs 3: Hey, remember all those bullpen meltdowns?

Oakland wins again as Chicago's bullpen implodes

A's improve to 15-13, while Cubs fall to 12-16

The Oakland Athletics continued their winning ways on Sunday, defeating the Chicago Cubs 5-3 at Wrigley Field. It was the A's fourth straight win and their sixth in their last seven games.

The Cubs, meanwhile, have now lost four of their last five games. Their bullpen has been a major problem all season, and it was once again the culprit on Sunday.

The A's jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks. Jed Lowrie singled in a run, and Matt Olson doubled in another.

The Cubs tied the game in the third inning on a two-run homer by Kris Bryant. But the A's regained the lead in the fourth inning on a solo homer by Matt Chapman.

The A's added two more runs in the sixth inning off the Cubs bullpen. Stephen Piscotty singled in a run, and Olson hit a sacrifice fly.

The Cubs scored a run in the eighth inning on a groundout by Albert Almora Jr., but it was too little, too late.

Liam Hendriks pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season.

The A's are now 15-13 on the season, while the Cubs are 12-16.
